Online security is a priority at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, so we want to make you aware of some schemes that thieves use to encourage you to reveal confidential information through email or the Internet.

Phishing
One of the most popular online scams is called "phishing". You may receive an email that appears to come from a reputable business instructing you to verify personal information. Phishing emails look legitimate because they often contain the logo of the business they claim to represent. Be careful! Such an email may lead you to a counterfeit web site where you will be asked to complete an online form to confirm your account details. This personal information is gathered by criminals and is used to commit fraud.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust will never contact you via email to ask for account numbers, passwords or PINs. Please do not reply to any emails that ask you to confirm account details or personal information.

Debit Card PIN Entry
When you use your Debit card online, you should never be required to reveal your PIN number to complete a transaction. The only time your PIN number is required is when you are withdrawing money at an ATM or making a purchase in person.

Do not provide your PIN in any other circumstance, especially over the Internet.

Please Notify Us!
Again, please never divulge your PIN or other account information online.
